About OREN Foundation

Osiligi Rescue and Empowerment Network (OREN) is a duly registered Community-Based Organization (CBO), registered on 14 November 2018 that advocates for the rights, protection, and empowerment of women and girls in Narok County Kenya. The organization works to eliminate harmful cultural practices, including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), forced marriages, teenage pregnancies, gender-based violence, and gender inequalities.

What started as a small initiative has grown into a comprehensive network of dedicated individuals, volunteers, and partners. Today, OREN continues to work relentlessly to ensure that every girl has access to quality education, safety, and the opportunity to reach her full potential.

Additionally, we conduct advocacy campaigns and community awareness sessions on the dangers of FGM, child marriage, and gender-based violence (GBV), and provide information on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

THEMATIC AREAS

01

Girl Rescue and Support

This thematic area focuses on the identification, rescue, protection, and holistic support of girls at risk of or escaping Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child forced marriage, and other forms of gender-based violence. Through our Safe Space Program, we provide a confidential and secure environment for a period not exceeding nine (9) months, where rescued girls receive immediate protection, psychosocial counseling and basic needs support. We prioritize survivor-centered care, ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of every child while supporting their emotional recovery and resilience.

02

Education Support Program

The Education Support Program aims to ensure continued access to quality education for girls rescued from FGM and forced marriage, as well as children from vulnerable households. Through scholarships, we support school fees, uniforms, learning materials, and psychosocial care to enhance retention and academic performance. In addition, the Community Education Center's Primary School Wing provides foundational education to children from low-income families, helping to break the cycle of poverty, early marriage, and harmful cultural practices.

03

Skills Development and Trainings

This thematic area focuses on equipping women and girls with practical, market-driven vocational skills to enhance employability and self-reliance. Through the Skills Training Wing and Women Vocational Skills Training & Certification Project, beneficiaries receive hands-on training in fashion and design, hairdressing, beadwork, beauty therapy, soap and detergent making, and computer packages. Training is complemented by certification, mentorship, internships, and job placement support, enabling participants to secure employment or establish income-generating activities.

04

Life Skills and Mentorship Programs

The Life Skills and Mentorship Programs aim to build confidence, leadership, and decision-making capacities among girls and women. Through structured sessions, beneficiaries are trained in communication skills, self-esteem building, goal setting, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), financial literacy, and personal development. Mentorship is provided by trained counselors, community role models, and professionals who guide beneficiaries in navigating personal challenges, making informed life choices, and transitioning successfully into education, employment, or entrepreneurship.

05

Reconciliation and Reintegration

This thematic area supports the safe, voluntary, and survivor-centered reintegration of rescued girls into their families and communities where appropriate. Through counseling, mediation, and structured dialogue, we facilitate reconciliation processes that rebuild trust, address harmful behaviors, and strengthen family support systems. For girls with children, structured co-parenting arrangements are implemented to ensure stability and safety. The survivor's autonomy, safety, and best interests remain paramount, and reconciliation efforts are suspended immediately if any risk re-emerges.

Reconciliation and Reintegration
06

Partnership and Networking with Others

Recognizing that sustainable change requires collective action, the organization focuses on building strong partnerships and networks with government institutions, community leaders, civil society organizations, schools, health facilities, law enforcement agencies, and donors. Through collaboration, referral pathways, joint advocacy, and coordinated interventions, we strengthen child protection systems, improve service delivery, and amplify efforts to eliminate harmful cultural practices and gender-based violence.

Village Saving and Loaning Associations (VSLA)

We promotes economic resilience and financial inclusion among women through community-based savings and loan groups. Beneficiaries are trained in savings, lending, record keeping, and financial management, enabling them to mobilize savings, access small loans, and invest in income-generating activities. VSLAs complement our skills training and entrepreneurship programs by providing women with startup capital, reducing dependency, and enhancing household economic stability.
